  2. How to maintain proper ventilation in all indoor spaces
  • Principles for indoor use of cooling or central air conditioning systems
  1. Windows should be opened 5 to 10 cm at each of the four corners to maintain moderate ventilation; doors may be closed.
  2. The ratio of the number of air vents and exhaust air vents of the air conditioning system has to be 2 to 1 (i.e. the fresh air volume will be twice the exhaust air volume (m3/s)). Thus, positive pressure is maintained facilitating the exchange of air with the outside (outdoor).
  3. If ventilators (fans) are used: Ceiling fans should be set to low speed. Oscillating fans should be set to one direction and low speed.
  • Principles for rooms without air-conditioning
  1. The main function of an exhaust fan is to extract fresh air from the outside into the classroom from one side, and to exhaust air from the other side.
  2. In rooms with an exhaust fan (wall fan) and a standing fan, the exhaust fan should be installed at the transom above the window, while the standing fan should be placed at the entrance.
  3. When using an exhaust fan wall fan, the window directly below the fan should be closed to ensure better air circulation.
